How is a 4-popper supposed to move this thing? Looks a lot larger than 'ol PT. IMESHO, it looks too Toyota-like and does not grasp the '49 at all. It's retro lip service. I used to have a '53 Chevy pickup and I just don't see the connection here.

The SSR, on the other hand, was well-executed in design, but GM is killing itself with arrogant price points. One more rant: the new Corvette is a major, major disappointment . What other car in their ENTIRE history is more eligible for retro styling cues!?! Sheeehhhh...............

The SSR is not selling because it is a 40,000$ sports car with interesting looks and middling performance. The 40K$ price point is patrolled by some seriously fast cars, most of which manage to have more trunk room or a vestigal back seat or both. Once you get past the looks, there is nothing else that makes the SSR interesting. So they will sell a few for novelty value, and thats it.

Part of the PT's charm is that beyond the looks, there is a practical little station wagon.

The HHR is arriving in the same market... trouble is, it is showing up late, and with GMs reputation for year 1 quality problems. Wait a year or two, then buy the GMC version (GMC: Chevy with lockwashers).
As for looks: It is certainly an improvement over the Aztek.

But I won't buy one until GM starts topping the Consumer Reports quality ratings. (At which time I'll buy a GMC 4x4 with a plow and start a snow removal business in Miami.)

I think the Aztek was modeled after the car in National Lampoon's Vacation - after he drove it off the road.

Your other points were right on, too, Fritz.[|)]

Quicksilverdon is right "Other than the uninspired grill, the HHR looks like 42,000 other SUVs. YAWN."

I bet they will advertise it as affordable. Watch it begin at $27,000 and $33000 fully eqiupped. I really did like the new Trailblazers when they came out but after seeing the price of a fully equipped trailblazer I said forget it. I bought the PT. The PT just had way more character and more after market items to play around with than many of the SUV's out there. I only wish Chrysler came out with the concept 1998 PT Pronto Cruiser with a AWD configuration. Make this the Chrysler sports car just under $30000. Too bad most vehicles are going the way of the SSR, New Thunderbird and New Marauder over priced hunk of metal. If Chrysler's not careful the Crossfire may follow very soon.

Agree with T on overpriced metal, even though I love all 3 that T mention. The only SSR in town that I have seen was on the lot, seen 2 or 3 T-birds and only 1 Marauder. As far as Crossfires, only 1 silver one and tons on the lots. Sells are hurting but they won't back down. [:I]

Looks like a near miss on the styling, they took a cool idea and changed it just enough to make it ugly. I am sure that it will be a wide miss on pricing. I felt really lucky to find a car I really liked under $25,000 when I bought my GT last year. I will bet that the next gen (if there is one) PT will be out of my decided price range.
