[:I]
I need to remove my hood silencer under my hood and need to know how to remove the fasteners that hold it on. They seem to just spin around and not want to pull off. Don't want to break them if possible. I want to paint my washer nozzles. THANKS |

Tom,
The underhood blanket has the purpose of coming down in case of an engine fire and smother the fire...yea I guess it does a small job of silencing the engine noise too. Those fasteners are made to melt in the fire and drop the blanket down. Those fasteners have to be pryed out using any number of different methods and sometimes you won't be able to re-use them depending on the way they come out. They have ridges all around to keep them in and sometimes when you pull wrong, the ridges smooth out and won't stay in tight anymore when you try and re-use them. Slowly use and open needle nose pliers to pull/wiggle the fasteners out. If you do mess them up you can buy a bag of them at the dealers or some hardware shops might carry em.

Mine are different than Crewzin describes - there are 2 "tabs" that need to be squeezed together to get 'em out - if you pull, the tabs bend "backwards" and will snap off. Bend the flat cap away as much as you can, then use either very thin needle-nose pliers or a thin flat screwdriver to push the tabs in while pulling on the flat top. Once you get one out, you'll see. If I knew where to get replacements, I'd yank them out because they're a pain.[xx(]

[8]Well they don't come out easy, and half of them will be ruined. The dealer sells that cheap little clip for $4.00 a pop , what a rip-off...................

Why do you want to do that in the first place?
Please tell me it's not to make your engine sound louder.
