You can count on any vehicle with an ABS controller to be a prime candidate for an EDR. Most of the Data that the EDR stores comes directly from the last moments of operation, as monitored by the ABS Controller; perpetually rewriting over the previous data stored there.

Considering that the PT already has a task manager running in the PCM that monitors the various controllers that are networked into it (The ABS Controller is one of them), the stage is already set for Chrysler NGC PCMs to have this capability.

If you think that EDRs are invasive of your privacy, you're really gonna love OBDIII when it comes out.

I had questions about this myself. Found this web site. It has a list of vehicles that DO have this device. Big brother IS watching...in many different ways!

One of the rental car companies (I think it is Enterprise) DOES install something similar on their rentals. When you rent from them, you are limited in travel to states directly adjacent to the one in which you live (Must be a fleet insurance thing). Apparently there is some sort of GPS recorder hidden on the vehicle which allows them to review where the car actually went during a rental. It was reported last year in the Sacramento Bee that a couple received a bill in excess of $1,000 for a one day trip to a non-adjacent state.

The PT has it in the PCM. I only found that out when the technician told me at what speed I was cruising when the check engine came on. One more thing, they can even tell, I have disconnected the battery to reset the code.

I have 2003 GT, last year a deer tried to jump over my hood when I was driving home one dusk. she did not make it 100% and the right hind quarter impacted on the passenger side windshield. I was doing 39 in a 45. How do I know that, because the insurance adjuster downloaded the data. Because of that the claim was easy for the insurance company to pay. Do I like the idea of that Hell No!!!! and I would take it out this sec if I knew how. In a post I wrote over a year ago, I reported I watched the guy at the dealership download the data when they were trying to trouble shoot a problem. I was amazed at how much info there was. I also saw a story in the news were a guy had rented a car and when he got his CC statement there was $325.00 addes to the bill. When he called the car rental company up they told him the GPS data showed he had exceeded the speed limit 3 times and in the contract they could add charges because he broke some rule. Remember when Bill Clinton was wanting parents to have the grain of rice size ID/locater chips put in our kids for safety. Orwell was on track, it's just he will be about 30 late.

We put them in pick up trucks here in Kentucky. Usually the next to last words heard are "Hey Bubba, watch this!" The last words heard are "OH S@#$!". Sorry, couldn't pass it up.
