Event Data Recorder?

CNN's Paula Zahn reported on friday about Event Data Recorders installed on many vehicles without the knowledge of the owner. It records every action the driver makes, and can be used against him or her in court if an accident occurs. It can not be removed from the car because it also controls air bag deployment.[:X]



Does anyone know if the PT Cruiser has an Event Data Recorder?[:I]

I may be wrong but I thing they are placed only in high end dollar cars at this time. We don't fall into that category. Just like when On-Star first came out...eventually every car will have it.

If the event data recorder is connected to the GPS system of On-Star, it could easily map where the vehicle has been driven. [8]

The only thing it wouldn't say is who was driving. [}]

I have installed a Car Chip data recorder on my PT.
I use it on trips, or any time I want to track basic functions.

I had questions about this myself. Found this web site. It has a list of vehicles that DO have this device. Big brother IS watching...in many different ways!

Well, I was sure wrong about saying it's only on "high end" vehicles. Thanks for the list Pauley. My information was a couple years old....that technology sure caught on in a hurry and I'm willing to bet my annuity check that the insurance companies had a lot to do with the development. They would do anything to prove that you were in the wrong so they don't have to pay!

Seems like mostly GM vehicles. What's up with that? I think the other manufactures are starting to install them now. Didn't know that since 1994 they were installed. Thanks for the site Pauley. I know your cell phone has a chip in it since 9/11. That Mel Gibsaon/Julia Roberts movie is becoming more and more realistic!
