Default Check engine oil light question

I just rented a PT cruiser from a rental car company. Since there is no manual come with it so I hope I can get an answer from this forum. When I turn on the car, before started it, all lights went on shortly then went off except "check engine" and "check oil" light. They went off after I started the car. I have no doubt on that 'check engine' light, behave just like my own car, but shouldn't the check oil light also go off shortly, even if engine is not started?

It's operating properly.

AAron,

As MX-5 already said, it's working properly. After I change oil, the oil light stays on for about 1 to 2 seconds until the sensor sees the oil pressure build up. If the PT sits for awhile, it could do the same thing.

If the engine isn't running, there's no oil pressure, hence the low oil pressure warning light is on
