Default liftgate dangers

My daughter was the most unfortunate recepient of the corner of the liftgate recently. She was exiting the car and coming around the back and just under the corner of the liftgate when I was pulling it down to close it.
Ouch [B)]
Just be aware that the corner of the liftgate is sharp and can pack quite a wallop. Always 'clear' the area before closing the liftgate.
She is 5'4" so I'm not sure how it would affect someone who is taller.

Hope she's alright. That is a very sharp corner.

They also attack the owner's themselves. I was on the way to load a cooler in the back and the little lady did not see me, being dark and all. I was paying attention to the 2 liter i had on top of the cooler cover rolling back and forth. Liftgate was lowered right on top of my head. Yeah...it stings.

Speaking of lift gates. I have an '04 with 7K miles so I consider it new. My lift gate doesn't go up by itself, I have to keep preasure on it to open all the way. Is this normal with most PT's? [:I]

NO. Mine goes all the way up after just opening it up about 18 inches or so.

Mines about the same as Crewzin's, maybe just alittle bit more. I have to help it the first 18 to 24 inches, then its fine.

I am assuming it is warm outside being summer and all when you are trying to put your liftgate up. Mine is slow when it is cold outside but if your's goes up slow no matter what temp, I would take it to a dealer and get a new set put on under warranty. If it is a decent dealership, they should put it on no problem. Plus, you are only at 7k or so, so you are not at any important maintenance interval that they can try and sack you for, as long as you've had a rotate lately.

The tops of the rear doors also come to a point - I was distracted last winter and got a cut below my left eye from the door...[B)][:0]
