Default I'm disliking my PT right now

Well see today was the second time the powersteering has gone out on me. I was turning a U-Turn in a culdasac and i heard a whine and lost all powersteering. This is the second ime it happened in a month, after the first one we put lucas treatment in it. The thing is also the tranny has been sutttering on starts from a stop and this happened while i'm 2 and a half hours from home at college. It makes me wonder about reliabilty, and i need reliabilty becuase i'm in college in a heavy snow area. I'm thinking of getting rid of it any opinions or advice for me?

I believe the tranny fluids and the steering fluids are very sensative and strictly uses ATF+4 fluids. Adding that lucas treatment into the powersteering probably is the reason why it failed the 2nd time.

Generally the PT is a reliable car, but like all cars, there are always ones with particular/reoccuring problems.

the first time i belive is from the place the oil was changed when my parents drove it put the worng fluid in there but it was like 4 months before it happened. SO i dunno the tranny has never had anything added to the fluid except fluid by the dealership. i dunno its bothering me, we've had it in twice before for the powersteering problems. oh well gotta see what times brings, i'm still away from home and wont be back until thursday night

You don't say how many miles. I'd say flush both tranny and power steering - put atf+5 (it supercedes atf+4) in tranny - and the best recommended for pwr steering.
I flushed my tranny at 50,000+ miles and am at 77,000+ now with no grief.
