Your owners manual will tell you what is actually required for the 30k service & it aint what the dealer's service department is trying to sell you. Take the care to a reputable mechanic & get the job done better & much much much cheaper than at any dealer service deparment. Keep the invoice & your warranty will not be affetcted. The only reason to ever go to a dealer for service is for a recall or actual warranty work.

well, final bill was much less, ONLY $500.00!?!? 360 of that was for labor, dealer said it is the high cost of living in san diego (mechanic's pay, benefits, etc.). i know it is a little much and some of the work may not have needed to be done, but in the end i am happy. having purchased the car used from a dealer without seeing complete service records, i wanted all fluids replaced and a complete inspection, now i feel i am starting fresh and can monitor their use (yes, SRG, i do know better!). not sure i will go the dealer route again, just did it this time for the recall and some warranty work (the steering popping problem and my exploding fog lamps). thanks to all for the info, why i love this forum, always everything you need to know!

I got hosed at 20, when I got my tranny fluid changed, brake rotors and pad changed and rears clean for 500. I could have gone somewhere else but I will have lived and learn for the first time. 500 could have gotten me cross drilled and ceramic pad, and maybe some braided brake lines and other stuff.

Live and learn.

Do what you can else were if you find cheaper.

5 year, 100,000 mile coolant is a joke. I hate the stuff. The fiancee has a 2001 Cavalier and it was junk this past spring. She has 28,000 on it. Everyday I see cars that come in that need new red coolant. And, yes, I do have one of the special red coolant testers. It does not last that long under any normal driving conditions. And tecnically yes, if your coolant went bad and caused some sort problem, like a rotted radiator, you could get a new one saying you never required a coolant flush, but why would you want to risk it for 75 dollars.

Mmmm. Breaded brake lines. Great with some Ranch dressing! I prefer beer battered, though.
