No prob. You're basing your mileage on that one full tank. In order to get a good estimate on your MPG, you should use several tanks, but trying to keep the variables the same.

I normally wait until it reaches 1/4 empty before filling up, then when I fillup, I usually fillup, just a little past when the pump stops. Then calculate my mileage by figuring out how many miles I have driven (current recorded miles - past recorded miles), then divide that by the amount of gas I just filled up. I would get varied mpg from 19-24, then I thought about each time I fillup, the amount of gas varies from 10 to 12+ gallons, so my calculations may be inaccurate. So I thought, it order to make it a little more accurate is to keep as many of the variables the same. I know I can't drive the same place(s) everyday and weather (rain, wind, etc.) cannot be the same either daily, but at least I can fillup the same amount of gas each time to get as close to an accurate mpg.

Also, who knows, maybe pumps are made differently regarding the sensor. A full tank on one pump may stop at 15 gallons, at another tank, it may stop at 13 gallons. It would be hard to base your mpg just becuase of a sensor stopping the pump sooner than another.

Ok thanks crazie..I guess not that much difference from what I do, I drive 65 miles to work and back, so I fill up at the same pump and same side everytime...let it click off and keep track of it for the month. But i have to admit my mileage is way better than what I see posted on here varies some from weather conditions(wind rain ,snow) but stays pretty much the same from one month to the next. Oh and it is better also because we have a bigger gallon in Canada(takes you a little farther) but costs way more than your gas[xx(]

Also my foot has a huge affect on milage

My foot has affected my mileages, too. Actually, it corolates to the cost of gas...As the gas prices go higher, my foot gets lighter.

Not too much science. Everyone uses the same math to calculate MPG (distance traveled / gallons used). That's what I'm doing. I'm just making sure I have the same amount of gas each time.

Crazy Eddie,
Your right, mpg is not rocket science, its the simple ratio of Miles Per Gallon: divide miles driven by gallons consumed. The larger the sample the more accurate the results. A one tank tast will only be accurate if the the tank is filled to exactly the same level at the begining as at the end. You can't do that by putting in 10 gallons. The only practical way is to fill the tank both times until the fuel nozzle clicks off. There will be some variation with this, but averaging succesive tankfulls (using same pump if possible) will make the results more accurate.
I've been doing this for many years and many vehicles (my wife says I'm a bit anal about it)and have gotten to the point I can predict the fuel I will need to fill up based on the miles driven.

[?] I guess I'm a little anal about tracking my gas mileage too. I've checked every tank for 52K miles & it gets better as I rack up the miles. I've got an Airaid intake, using Mobil 1 & ha a magnaflow muffler for awhile but nothing made a drastic difference. It doesn't like headwinds or 80+ mph & I generally drive with a heavy foot up to cruising speed but I've averaged 25.6 overall. I keep intending to do a 250 mile trip at 60 mph so I can say I can get 30 mpg. If that happens I'll let you know.

We took our 03 GT from Sacramento CA to Denver last month. Had rear seats out and loaded with "stuff" to the window line. Ran usualy at 75 on cruise control, with a/c on. My worst mileage segment was the climb over to Reno, 19.7 mpg. The best eastbound was 27.5 mpg, and had 23.7 overall. The return trip best was 27.9, and overall for 2386 miles(including a week of Denver traffic) was 24.9 mpg. The interesting part was that I got a cel in Cheyenne WY, and had a cracked sparkplug replaced when we got to Denver. What would we have gotten running on 4 good cylinders all the time?
The car is my wife's daily drive, so the only mod (so far) is removed silencers in the airbox. If not for the warranty issue, stage 1 would probably happen. Sure is fun to have a little rod before we retire!

Thisind of surpsies me. My BMW 540 6-speed manual at 3800 pounds
and 4.4 liters gets the same! It hasome software mods so its pushing 300HP.

I would think even thought the 2.4 liter is putting out 215 HP, it is lighter and would have less gas useage and thus better mileage....

My 2 cents
Ted
Ted, try unhooking the negitive battery cable for about 5 minutes. This resets the computer to the way that you drive. I found that after installing some mods, Bassini Duals, AirAid air filter that my milage increased on our used '02 Base model. Welcome to the Forum [^]!!
