My worst mileage segment was the climb over to Reno, 19.7 mpg. The best eastbound was 27.5 mpg, and had 23.7 overall. The return trip best was 27.9, and overall for 2386 miles(including a week of Denver traffic) was 24.9 mpg.
Sounds normal,.. I have a 03 GT and on a recent road trip, I averaged 24.3 mpg. I use Mobil One 5/30 and made sure the tires were at the recommended pressure of 38#'s. No other mods have made a difference i.e.: 93 octane doesn’t appear to make a difference, silencers were taken out but replaced with no difference (did not like the extra noise). Using the A/C seems to take away about one mpg and yes, wind makes a difference, how much depends on car speed AND the wind speed. That’s just my two cents but I believe these would be real world averages. Yes, I do use the Turbo frequently… gotta have fun, right? [8)]

Make sure the bolt is loose enough that you can unscrew with your fingers. If the negative cable still won't come off, you may just need to wiggle it free.

Wiggle it and lift it up, the cable is a little short, not what I'm used to in length. Might as well use some cola (Pepsi or Coke etc.) to clean up the corroded area around the post and cable.

An idea to make you cable longer.
Smash the front end drivers side into car in front of you,
have the metal puncture the battery and fry both cables,
have body shop replace them and make them longer.

Not my first choice to have, but if it happens then do it.

This is the one thing that has always bugged me about my 03 GT (currently at 14K miles). The gas mileage.

The way that I've been calculating is I reset the trip counter at every fill up. Next time I fill up the tank, I divide the number of miles per number of gallons I just put in. I still don't understand how that would give you an innacurate result.

In any case, doing it like that, I'm getting anywhere between 16 and 18 MPG. I don't know, call me crazy but I think that's very poor for a small 4 cylinder car like ours.

How are people getting 23+ MPG?

Mine is an automatic. I drive 32 miles to and from work every day, some are city, most is highway. Now that gas prices are so high, my foot has lightened up a lot.

I have not done any mods whatsover. Should I be getting better mileage than my 16-18 MPG?

At least be happy your car is fast. I have an N/A and i get 18. If i have a slow car, I at least want gas mileage.

It depends where you're driving. I drove the freeway in Dallas to pick up my mother in law for Thanksgiving and my car had excellent mileage. The next week, just driving to work and back (15 miles round-trip) and my mileage was horrible, just taking an old country highway with few stop signs. I have an '03 N/A with Volante Intake, Borla 2.5" split exit exhaust. I'd say my mileage declined after installing the Borla exhaust, but probably more to my driving [8)]

I also considered that the CAI filter was dirty. When I checked it, I noticed that the shop that performed the install did not handle it properly; it had wriggled loose, was flopping around on the end of the intake pipe, and I had dust in the intake. I switched out with my factory intake and I noticed a loss in throttle response, but mileage improved for the first 100 miles and then deteriorated. My personal best mileage was 28.5 MPG driving highway 10 from San Bernardino, CA to Phoenix, AZ and back. My worst thus far has been about 20-21 MPG in traffic both in Cali and now in Dallas.
