Default 3-m film anyone?

I was detailing a car today at my dealership and witnessed a company installing the 3-m film on the front end of a Lotus. I was mpressed with the workmanship. I was talking to the guy and he told me just about every car company has a kit for this film. He tells me it doss the job against stone chips. anyone have this on their Cruiser? I might do this after my winter air brush project is done. Might even do the whole front end. feedback ? Gary

I was just at a car show last Saturday with my Corvette club (even though I took my PT) and one of the newer Corvettes had the film on. You could hardly tell it was there and had to look really well to see any endges. The cost is what would hold people back...the front of the Vette costs $695.00

I had it installed over a year ago on my 2004 PT and it looks and performs great....much better than a BRA...you do not have to remove it at all and on my silver color you cant even tell the clear film is on until you get right up close to it. It is not cheap to get...but there is no other protection that is better....period..I got mine form ...www.xpel.com and had a local installer put it on....

Good information, I wonder if I should cover my entire hood after I get it air brushed, I will have over $1,000 invested in the project and I'd hate to get chips on it. I will look into it when the time comes, in the meantime I got this guys card. Company is called the Plastic surgeons.

Went to their site...but the one thing I would want protected is the painted bumper and it doesn't look like there's a piece the covers the bumper at all.

If you'll check the Xpel main site, they make several separate kits / pieces for the PT Cruiser, including the front bumper, grille, air-dam, and hood. Cost adds up, but it might be a great way to protect a custom airbrush mural. I know a couple of PT owners that have had this installed and it's barely visible on the front end.

Happy with mine...had it on four six months now.....

Zbart has that stuff and don't think it cost as much there.
It does look better on light color cars.IMHO

There's a shop near my place that carries/applies various makes of films on exotic and regular cars. Most of the exotic owners pay for a custom cut or additional coverage, usually the entire hood, fenders, doors, and rear quarter panels. If applied correctly, you don't see any air bubbles or wrinkles in the film. But some of the films may have an orange peel look to them after application and may discolor or yellow slightly over the long term. You are looking at a lifespan of 5-8 years, depending on your location, but the film can be removed and replaced as needed.
