Default Moments away from picking up my Cruiser....

So I decided to get myself a PT Cruiser, after test driving
a bunch of different vehicles.

I used to own a 1961 Ford Falcon about 10 years ago, and
between now and then owned basic, run-of-the-mill Japanese sedans...
trying to be a gas saving, environment concious, responsible adult.
But I really miss being excited about my car, I miss manual transmissions.
So I've traded in the Accent and I'm picking up my 2005 PT Cruiser with manual tranmission tomorrow. Only frills are A/C, a CD player. (I'm having a place
install powerlocks and keyless entry because the Factory wouldn't give me those
without upgrading to the Touring model, which may have been worth it if I had
wanted 2-tone. But I didn't.)

Any regrets? Any advise? Anything I should know or be aware of?
I've read really good things about them, and also some horror
stories with people getting uber-lemons.... so any
comment for this Newbie would be appreciated!

- Shannon

I think most people will tell you that they're are basically great little cars. Bad news always seems to travel the fastest, so if one person has a specific problem and then hears someone else has had the same problem, they'll often conclude that the problem is widespread.

Road & Track Magazine had a PT in their long term test fleet and claimed it to be one of most reliable vehicles they'd ever tested. They look cool, they're quiet, ride nice, lend themselves to personalization beautifully (TaylorMade's comment cautions about this!) and are a very unique vehicle - nothing else quite like them.

You'll have a blast, I'm sure!

Welcome and congratulations.
Mike pretty well said it all.
I think what you'll find is that the PT is, most of all, COMFORTABLE. I have enjoyed mine for nearly 80,000 miles now.

Question - 2-tone on a Touring Edition?? I thought that was only top-of-the-line.

Not this year... you can get a black top with 4-5 choices of bottom color.
If I could have gotten black with purple I might have done it....

I know I'll get the mod bug... I've already ordered 3 different colors
of "fast flames" and an 8-Ball shifter knob! LOL!

Congrats on making a wise-buying decision. [|)] Think you will be happy with this great car. After 11+K miles on my 04GT I have no regrets whatsoever and enjoy driving it more each day. My only advice would be...enjoy your new ride! [^]
