BillSlim, to respond to your question directly: I have never heard a PT classified as an SUV. For EPA fuel mileage calculations, the PT is categorized as a truck because with the rear seats flipped forward, the floor is flat to the rear of the vehicle (like mini-vans) or trucks.
As far as a car wash is concerned, it sounds like another way to rip off some of their customers. I could actually understand charging extra for a Surburban or Excursion due to the extra interior and exterior surfaces but I would suspect that it takes longer and is as difficult to wash a Taurus as a PT. I would probably be looking for a car wash that wasn't as money hungry.

Here in michigan my cruiser is considered a station wagon and I would never take it to a automatic car wash, no way!

[8)]Come on guys this is after all a car. I have taken my 2001 and my 2005 ragtop to the car wash, not a touchless, and the paint on both look just fine. A coat of wax once a year or so does wonders.

Don't jump on me for going through a carwash. I drive my car year around and sometimes it has to go through the wash. It is my second car. I keep my Marauder put up. During the summer I wash it myself but in the winter I go through the brushless washes. Anyway, back on topic I have never been charged for a SUV.

It's only a car.... Never ever use a car wash, whatever kind there is out there right now. The car we traded in for our GT was a 1993 GEO Tracker, at 10 and a half years old and looking almost as good as the day we brought it home. So this, taking care of your car (my GT) means something totally different to me. They could offer to wash mine for free and they still wouldn't get near my car.

i dont see how a pt could be considered an SUV its small and front wheel drive, a station wagon is more along the lines of classifying it. but yeah in the winter since i don't have a hose at college the high pressure places work wonders to keep the salt ad grime at bay, i do about once a week depending on temp.

The local BMV (Indiana) classifies the PT as a SUV, don't agree but assume a discussion would not be in my best interest. I use a DIY car wash as they have warm water and spot free rinse. I take a 5 gal bucket to fill with the soap solution and hand wash the car. This usually cost me appox. $4 in quarters. I like the clear coat spray as it works better than Rain-X on glass.

Wash my own car!! That's part of HER Saturday morning Choors!!
Sit down Deanna, I was just joking. ![]() I hadn't washed my own car in years (four sons) until I got the PT. Now it's kinda fun to get it all clean and nice. Besides, it's not good sportsmanship to blow past a Mustang GT in a dirty PT Cruiser![8D] Which brings me to the point of Sport/Utility Vehicle. I don't think SUV realy has anything to do with size as much as sport and utility. With my mods, I think my GT is somewhat "sporty". And I recall one thread that was about all the stuff people put in the back of the PT, the utility part. Now, I'm not putting the PT in the same class as the Hummmer. It's how you like your Personal Transportation. IMHO! WELCOME NEWBEES! This thread brought out some new folks : Capt Kidd, PTRobin, Coopj40, patbluecruise and bluewasp to name a few. Good to have you chiming in on the conversations!
