Default Power Steering Fluid

HELP! As you all know a couple of weeks ago, I got the power steering rack and pinion fixed on my PT. Well it recently started making a grinding noise again. The Service Manager told me it would do that for only a couple of hours!

Well, I called them today bec it was still doing it. He said it could be low on fluid. He said my cap should have a built in dipstick with a line level to read. All mine has is HOT on one side and COLD on the other. When I clean it off and put it back in, I only get a very miniscule amount of fluid on the very tip of the dipstick. I assume that means its ridiculously low. Now my next question is: When you fill it up, how do you know where the fill line is?

jmack, just went out and checked mine. It has two lines
on it and says add on the low one and full on the top one.
Check your owners manual. It should tell you.

Thank you Jimbo. Two problems. My PT didnt' come with an owners manual. I bought it used. Mine does not have that. It only has HOT on one side and COLD on the other?

It means that if your power steering is warmed up, you fill until it gets to the "hot" line. If you check it when it's cold you fill it until the "cold" line. My dealership did the same to me on my old PT; didn't fill it up the way they should have either.

Thanks guys. This was driving me crazy. When the service manage said "it was only supposed to do that for about 40 minutes after we fixed it, " i freaked out.

I guess he figures 40 minutes is far enough that you wouldn't turn around and come back...[xx(]

Hello All. I filled fluid this morning and drove the car around the block. I was so happy I giggled. I can just tell you that I had to have been happy because my leather seats were very cold and the happiness blocked out my FROZEN ASS.!

I dont know if this is the same, but when im at a stop, and i turn the wheel, i hear and feel some kind of noise in the front axle. It doesnt seem to big, but is it natural, or should i worry about it?

It just depends on what the sound is like. Is it a grinding/whiny sound? If you havent already checked the Power Steering Fluid level, you might want to. Also It could be a belt issue. Of course if you dont feel comfortable with that you can always take it to your dealer or take it to your personal mechanic. I had to have the entire rack replaced (which I still think Chrys should have paid for)

On a lighter note after I topped off the fluid, it amazes me how much better it rides. I was like DANG~! no more pop!
