Default R&R the rear window glass?

I have to replace the rear hatch on my PT (small bit of stupidity on my part). Anyone have any experience installing rear glass. Is there any way to get it out and reuse the gasket or should cut it out and buy a new one gasket? I saw an episode of a car show that demonstated a technique using a length of cord to get the window into the gasket. I thought I might try it. I am going to have a new hatch painted and bolt it on at home and I am debating whether to have a glass company come over and put the glass in the new hatch. Any thought or ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like a 2-person job, and best left to glass company. Don't think cost should be that high - for them, it's probably far easier than a windshield.

I know a guy that had his rear window replaced with one where you could remove the window whenever you wanted too and still have an oval opening back there. He said the glass place he went too had a hell of a time taking the old one out.
