Default Removing intake manifold

Thinking about removing the intake manifold and painting it. How difficult is it to remove. Anything I need to watch out for?

Yeah - hang onto the bolts when you take them out - I had one fall down behind the grill in front of the radiator. Could see it but was hard to get to.[xx(]

If you have an extenable magnet, it makes it much easier. I got one at Big Lots for a buck, sure has saved my butt a few times.

Speaking of working on the intake. I was changing my spark plugs and couldn't get the wires off the throttle body like I should have, so I just spun the intake manifold out of the way and everthing was cool. When I was putting it back to gether, I noticed that the center spacer for the intake bolts was missing. It had fallen out when I put the spin on it. I never did find it after a CSI investigation in my intake and all over the front of the car. I just tightened that bolt down as much as I could before it started to pull into the plastic of the intake manifold. Been working well since then.

The image station link no longer has the images. Can anyone tell me if the seals for the intake are O-rings? Do they need replaced? All my AutoZone could do was order a complete intake kit upper and lower gasket kit. Is that what I need just to remove the upper intake when I want to change the plugs? Thanks for any help. I have a Hayne's manual just need to know if I need gaskets/seals before I open my '03 non-turbo up.

Kevin, the gaskets can be reused. Just be very careful when you lift the manifold. There should be 4 red/orange gaskets pressed into grooves, make sure they are seated when you reassemble. Manifold bolts should be torqued to 105 inch lbs in this pattern 5, 3, 1, 2, 4. I usually snug the bolts, then take them part way with the torque wrench and then torque to the final.

Plugs to be torqued to 13 foot lbs after applying anti seize to the threads and dielectric grease on the boots.

I guess you could call them "O" Rings, they are round diameter, but fit into a somewhat oval groove in the intake.
