Default Malfunction indicator light

On the wife's Cruiser malfunction light came on and stayed, it's
mot blinking.Looked in book said it could be bad gas or loose gas cap. Or something like that.I did error code deal,I think I did it right. It came up P 1604, what does that mean?

The sevice department probably just took the bulb out[:I] Just kidding Jimbo. I'm sure the problem was taken care of, sounds like you have a decent dealer.

P1604 is "PCM internal dual-port RAM read/write integrity failure". The test checks for power to the PCM with key on. If the power supply is okay, you replace the PCM, period. [:O] Sounds like you have an intermittent power problem or the PCM is dying internally. You could check connections, but this should be covered under warranty.

I guess i'm going to have to wait till it dies, because
right now it's ok and they won't fix anything that's OK.
Thanks for the heads up on the code.

Depending on your relationship with the dealer, they may just replace the PCM. The code will stay in history for a while (50 starts), so they can 'pull' it. If you say "Will you cover the tow when it dies?" they may be more willing to fix it before you get stranded, especially if there are any recalls that have not been done to your car. Call with your VIN and a decent attitude.

Where'd you find that?
"P1604 Loss of IPC serial data"
Son-in-law's '03 GT got it. (the P1604)
Car runs fine.
I told him to take it to a parts store that'll plug in for free see if there's more info.

All he said what he was starting, and let the key go before it fully caught, and got the check engine light. Started the car but light stayed on.
