Default Boost ?

I was at a party Friday night when someone there sat down on the couch with me and was telling me that my car was the cutest one/cleanest/sexiest car there. Then when the guy asked me whether it was a GT or not, I said, "No, its just a Limited," he said "Oh."

I mean to tell the truth, I have never had a problem with pickup until I started noticing a problem the other day. The car really don't have a lot of pickup does it?

I guess my question is, Is there anything I can do aftermarket that isn't very labor intensive/hard to do that could boost the pickup on this thing?

Speed is not the only game in town. A nice looking PT, whether cherry or with tasteful mods is a great car and certainly nothing to be apologizing for.

BUT, if speed is the issue, add a Hahn turbocharger kit and you can find the missing horses.

If you dont want to spend more than a hundred dollars, there are some things you can do. Remove the silencers in the airbox. It is a white cylinder thing in the top of the airbox, and the other one is a long black snorkel below the air filter. Second, get a K&n drop-in air filter. 3rd, do the mx-5 1-2 burp free shift mod if you want. You have to cut a wire. Removing the silencers will give you better sound, but if you want even more, go for an axleback exhaust. I could definitely feel the difference that gave me.

the initial exhaust/intake mods definitely improve the off the line responsiveness and a loud exhaust does not necessarily mean more power. Many people like the BTG axle back.
i get this one all the time from my State Trooper brother "Its a PT Cruiser, not a PT Racer"
have to say that the stage 1 hahn kit was just enough to satisfy me but now i want more. that is the good thing about the turbo over the S/C. Turbo is just a base to start from but with the S/C you slap it on and you are at a performance plateau.

not to be upfront or anything, but not everyone is willing to pay 3000 dollars for a turbo. I am very willing, I just dont have that kind of money. If i did, it would have been in my car years ago.

And this is why the DCM gods have created the GT and Turbo Lite models.

And it is good!

no worries, thats why this is Jmack's post.
i will agree that $3K is alot to dump but i had done too much already to my PT and wasn't willing to trade it in on a GT, besides i still pay N/A insurance

oh BTW Mack, offer the chicks a ride and maybe you'll get to show them how practical the back seat can be

Even the GT isn't all that fast, runs low 15' in the 1/4 Stock. Thats not too bad, but it's not that fast either... I have a 01 Limited, an I love my car, but the thing is just really really slow. I've added a K&N Filter, no Silencer either, but that stuff doesn't really do much. As far as a exhaust go, it's not going to make THAT big of a difference. Extra 5hp if you're really lucky.

My car has enough power to get out of it's own way, but good god does it sturggle when I have to travel to WV going up those mountains. Actually, I was headed to a junk yard today with my friend and we took seperate cars. He has a 94 Z-28, I got my 01 Limited. We caught a light and when it turned green I stomped the gas and gave it all I had.... he wasn't even into the throttle that much and just blew me away (Didn't want to roast those new expensive tires).

I have another car for my go-fast needs, it just sucks at doing everything else though (Less then 10mpg, horrible traction in the rain, not a Hatchback, etc.)

Yeah guys, dont get in an argument over me. I had always wanted to do the drop in thing....So can someone explain in a little better detail how to remove the silencers? Is it hard?

Also RallyD, I am going out on a limb here, but I guess it is time to out myself on here. I'm gay. Of course, that doesn't mean that all those hot girls that LOVE ME dont always call with "Jae, I could REALLY use your help to move that coffee table/TV/Various heavy furniture.

So all you single PT drivers out there that are straight, Go find a girl that needs something moved, and get LAID

If you can't remove the silencer then please never open you hood again... I'm just joking, but it's really easy to do. You know aht your air-box is right?? On the side are two metal latches, undo those and push foward (Towards the wind-sheild) and up. You've jyst removed the lid. Now look up in the lid and you'll see a white pipe think, just slide it down, latch it back up (Make sure the plastic tabs line up in the top of the lid) and shut the hood.... It's so easy, but I've taken apart Transmissions, Differnentials, engines etc. so I know a thing or two about cars
