Default confused about keys

I have a 2003 P.T. Cruiser Touring edition. I need an extra key and remote, the dealer did give me a spare of each, but I would like a 3rd. The dealer charges well over a 100 bucks for each key and remote. I tried looking on E-bay but I'm to confused people are selling Transponder OEM keys with a chip that has to be programmed? I just thought all keys were keys.

Can anyone please help me find a key and remote with out breaking my piggy bank. or explain to me the above.

Thanks much

Trish

Trish-
The keys on Touring and Limited Editions (not sure about base) - all have chips in them for anti-theft.
No need to involve the dealer....

From personal experience, get an extra key while you still have both of yours. The manual explains how to program an extra key yourself but you MUST have both keys to do so. If you have lost one of the keys, you have to have the dealer do it. The remote has to be programmed by the dealer anyway.

You can program the key and the remote yourself. The instructions are in your owners manual.

My bad. Took a brain poop. Grouch is correct. Additionally, the remote transmitter only requires one existing transmitter to program the new transmitter whereas it does require two keys to program a third key.
