I'm not sure how you judge bad gas mileage just on 200 miles per tank, are you running it to empty? I get about 280 but I run mine down to near empty so that when I refill it takes a full 15 gallons.

I usually set the trip meter to zero at each fillup, then when I fill up next time I note the gallons used to fill up, and divide the miles on the trip meter (reset it for next time) to get the MPG. I get 18 - 20.

I tank up when the warning light comes on. this is generally around 200 miles or so. I go a bit farther when its mostly hiway cruising. I get between 20-24 25 mpg not exactly a gas sipper, but then, I dont care, because I love my Cruiser!! Its a 2002 Dream ser 1 NA

Are you saying the '04 is an auto? That's a difference. Was the '02 a base? The base has narrower tires and that is a little better for mileage. Also, how many miles on the '04? Mileage improves as overall miles climb - the engine "loosens up" and has less friction.
I have over 80,000 miles on mine, and mileage keeps inching upward - to where on 100 mile commute I get 25+, but much worse for short trips.

Best things for mileage - pump up your tires - go a few PSI over the door sticker #s - and you can drive fast, but get to the speed slowly - the jack-rabbit starts slurp gas. Those tips are from my experience.

estottlemire, welcome to this forum. Not sure what 200 miles per tank means[:I] We have two Cruisers one turbo one not Both get around 16 city and 26 highway.Try the search, type in gas milage .
Goldenturtle02 and Jeff V ,I remember reading a post from Sci Fi
that you should fill up your tank before it gets below 1/4 tank. To help keep the fuel pump cool.

Jeff V,

Some time ago one of the mechanical gurus that participates in this forum made a very good point. He said it is potentially harmful to allow the fuel level to drop below 1/4 of a tank. The reason being the fuel pump is in the tank and keeping the fuel level above 1/4 keeps the pump cool since it is submerged. I understand that it is a pretty expensive issue to have to replace it. Just thought you would want to know.

My new 04 GT has averaged 16.9mpg over the 1780 miles I have driven it since new(mostly around town)
Mileage is about the same as I get on my '99 Miata, but I usually keep the boot well into both of them[8)]
