Default how to install multi-function switch?

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser Touring Edition, and today my fog lights were staying on, even though the turn lever/headlight knob wasn't pulled out, and the headlights in fact were off. After using Google, I came across many people who had the same problem, and they solved it by replacing the multi-function switch.

For the time being, I pulled fuse #8 from the fuse box by the driver's side left knee so that my fog lights would stay off. One person said the part # for a 2001 PT Cruiser is 5073049-AB, and he paid $52. I'd like to know a few things:

1) Does everyone think I need to replace the multi-function switch? Everything else works, just fog lights won't stay off. Sounds like a switch that is stuck in the On position. Could trying to adjust it fix the problem, instead of replacing it?

2) How do I find a part # for this? Is there a web page?

3) How do I install it myself if I go this route? What does installing it entail? Removing the steering wheel column shroud (covering) and some other stuff? Directions anywhere?

All I can tell you is what I've read...that's it's pretty easy to install a new one. The shroud comes off, a couple of screws that hold the stalk and 1 or 2 electrical connections. From what your telling us, yes, it does sound like the multi-function stalk is your problem. Good Luck.

I believe the part # is 5016951AB @ $65.00. You can Check this site: https://www.1stchryslerparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html I use collision side and it works better. To install remove the negative battery cable, this stops air bag from being deployed. Remove 2 Phillip head screws from the steering column cover. After cover is removed ther are 4 torx screws (I believe they are a 10 or 15 mm torx). Remove the electrical connectors from the back of the switch.Reinstall to new mutifunction switch and tighten 4 torx screwsand reinstall column cover. Hope this helps by the way welcome to the forum.[?]

Juicy,
The part number you want is 5019712AA lists for around $49, this number superceded the part number Gonzo posted.
Remember to transfer over the combo flasher and wiper switch from the old unit to the new. The combo flasher just unplugs and the wiper switch is attached with 2 screws.
Good luck

Yes, I'm Juicy from PTE. Just making my rounds hoping to get an answer between several PT Cruiser forums. I've had my car 4 years now, no more payments, plan on keeping it until it becomes a money pit, so hopefully another 4+ years. I've really enjoyed this vehicle, very versatile and comfortable. Ordered the switch, it was around $60, will post my installation experience on this same thread. Will be the first DIY I've done to the vehicle!

Oh and part # was 5073049-AB, which is what it says here:

http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...TOPIC_ID=7383&

I saw several other part #s in different posts on other forums, so either everyone but this guy is giving misinformation, or the part # keeps changing? I don't know the auto parts industry, so I have no idea what to call it.

I take that back, I'm Sealab2021 from PTE and PTCruiserClub.org. Juicy was taken on those 2, and I usually go by that nick.

Juicy.......I tried to find a post I read somewhere regarding this but couldn't find it. As I recall, there's a relay on the multi-switch for the fog lights that will not come with the new one. It's a small, black, plug-in module. Compare the original to the new one before you set the old one aside and you should find it. The person that posted this info said the install directions didn't refer to this.
Good Luck...

Let's say my old one has the black plug-in module, and the new one doesn't. Is it something that I can remove from the old one and put on the new one? Why wouldn't the new one come with it if it's a necessary part? What if that part is the broken item that is causing my problem ... then what?
