Default Broken rear quarter window!

The rear quarter window (the little one) has be broken and shattered on the PT! Arrggghhh. However, it's not a attempted break-in since there's a hole about 3/8" in diameter and the window is shattered but held up by the factory tint. Looks normal outside except the tiny hole but on the inside it's all spiderweb-ish.

Question is since my PT came with pre-tinted window from the factory, do I need to get OE window for it in order to match the tint/darkness? I heard that the factory tint is not a film that's added on but the "tint" is inside the window layers. Is it true? Hopefully it won't be too expensive if that's the case.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the tint is 'built-in'. A good glass place should be able to replace it. All modern cars with fixed glass bond the glass into place and it becomes structural. It won't be cheap, and check the window before installation for the tint match.

I think this question might be moot. Replacement glass will only come tinted.

No idea on how it happened. Noticed it while driving yesterday.

Anyway, got a quote from Chrysler and it's 526.52 CDN. Is this price fair?

So that's around $300 US? I had my windshield on my '03 PT replaced for less than that.

The glass is tinted chemically I heard, without using film.

See you're from Canada - could it have been thermal stress caused by cold? Guess we'll never know. Sounds like a lotta $ to me to replace...[:I]

Windshields are replaced most often, and are designed to be replaced. Side and rear windows cost more, parts and labor. Can check local prices if you want, but coming to San Diego would add a few bucks

Littledog, it sounds like you were running with the big dogs! Check your back seat for a .22 cal slug! [:I]
