Default Roof Rack + Cargo Box

Anyone using a rack with a box for extra cargo capacity? I'm going to try it to see how well it does on my GT. I've got a Yakima rack and 15S cargo box on the way. Mostly I'll put the bulky, lighter things up top (tent, sleeping bag, clothes, etc.) when camping to leave room for the telescopes and cameras inside. The 15S seems to be a good fit for the size of the roof area on the PT.

Just curious about wind noise, stability, etc.

Sooooo, if anyone has used a roof box, could you post your impressions?

If the roof rack + box doesn't work out, I guess it's back to looking for a small, lightweight cargo trailer.

Thanks!
BB

Haven't used one on the PT but as long as you don't exceed your GVWR you should be fine. You will get more drag and wind buffeting from the cargo box but that should not be a major problem.

As you stated, keep the heavy stuf inside so you don't get even more top heavy. We all like a low CG.

Unfortunally, with a cargo box your milage will be even LESS[xx(]!! A trailer MAY still be your best bet, I have seen trailer advertised in Cruiser Quarterly magizine.

My 2 cents worth.
