[:I]I have a 2004 with 16,000 on it...I have noticed that occasionally on a rough road there is a slight rattle that comes from the top dash cover area on the passenger side. Everthing seems fine and tight. Anybody out there with simmilar rattles in the dash area and maybe any luck to were they were coming from. Have not taken anything apart yet....

I have the same Rattle
have no idea where it comes from |

I sprayed the seams with silicone spray to see if it was a problem with rubbing...but it was not. Might just pull the cover off to see what is underneath it that may cause a rattle...

This could be a long shot [:I] but you might look in the glove box. Check for something hard in the bottom or back of it that might rattle or vibrate on a rough road. Just a thought.

The standard procedure for this type of rattle is to remove the top and put some foam or double sticky tape under the cover. Pull off both A-pillar moldings and the center console. Remove the screw in the center and remove the cover. There may be some marks where the parts are contacting. Put the foam in the areas where they touch and reinstall.

[xx(]Well I had a fun day. I took the dash cover off...I must say that it is not hard at all. Well I could not find anything that rattled. So I took the right side cowl off and low and behold I found it. On the windshield washer bottle on the front are two molded in clips that hold the wiring for the washer fluid motor. The wiring was not in the clips. It was just tangling along the bottle. I installed the wiring in the clips and the rattle was gone...O well at least I know how to take the top of the dash apart.....

I'll bring this back up.
When you say that you took off the front cowl, what exactly do you mean? How did you get to the washer motor assembly? Through the passenger compartment or through the area at the bottom of the windshield under the wipers or through the engine compartment? Any help is appreciated, I have the same rattle and it's driving me nuts. On a similar rattle note, any ideas what the rattle is from the rear when I'm driving down bumpy roads? I suspect something to do with the exhaust, but haven't looked at it yet. It's an '04 GT if it makes a difference. Thanks! |
