Default Power locks locking/unlocking while driving?

Just started this morning on the way to work. While I was driving the door locks would lock and unlock at random intervals. When I finally got to work, they wouldn't work at all, had to lock up manually. Pulled and tested fuses, all were fine. Things worked once I got back up again, but the locking and unlocking was at it again, even faster than before. I'm not sure what else to do, taking it to the dealer really isn't an option since it is out of warranty and I'm sure they would try to screw me. Any ideas? 2002 automatic LE if it helps.

Thanks. After looking around it seems it might be the RKEM - know anything about how to access or test this? I've only found someone mention it was under the dask console or some such.

Sorry, not me [:I] Maybe someone who has tested or changed it will come along and give you more advice.

vk,
Are you in a cold climate area and have had a lot of rain or wet snow? Ours got water into the door key cylinder switches after we had a wet snow and then a hard freeze overnight. The dealer could not pin point which switch so replaced all 3 of them under warranty. I know you are out of warranty but the switches are something to look at if you have had the heavy rain or even washed the PT and it dropped below freezing that night.

The RKE is under the dash, just over the radio.

(if the picture BELOW does NOT show, I posted the same picture here:

Thanks for the link and picture, will check it out. After work it only had the problem a few times, and the remote always worked. We have had some odd temps here lately, freezing one day and 70 the next, so who knows about the locks.

Let me just go ahead and say that I can TOTALLY sympathize with what is going on with you.....I would suggest you read those threads, and learn how to remove the switch. At least if you take the switch off the locks will stop doing that. Also the part is super cheap. I got mine for 18.00 plus shipping. IM me or email me if you need any help

Thanks all for the info. I thought the problem was just a one day thing, but today it was locking literally every other second the whole way home from work, it is driving me crazy. How would one go about taking off the doors to get to the locks as well as the dash panel to reach the RKEM? If this keeps going tomorrow I might just rip the thing apart, but I'd rather tackle it when it hasn't given me a horrible headache. Thanks again. [xx(]

I would visit the parts dept. of your dealer and ask what they recommend. The advice is always free, and the parts might be cheap.

Good Luck!
