I never put a spare outside my car. I've read, and believe, that a car thief WILL find a spare easily. Whenever I have to leave the key inside the car, I open a window. If I'm outside the car, and my keys aren't in my pocket, I get this weird feeling like I've forgotten something. I've always done this, but it REALLY took hold of me when I had an aftermarket alarm put in my Stratus, which locked the doors and set the alarm automatically.

STRANGE BUT VERY TRUE

If you have a key Fob

if you lock your keys in the car ,, and have a spare set at home

and you happen to have your cell phone with you ...

phone home and have the person at home point the key fob at the mouth end of the phone and press unlock

you hold your ear end of your cell phone at the car door while the person at home is pressing the unlock button on the fob

Guess what your car door will unlock

Try it

Strange but true

Just so you don't feel alone, I did it a winter ago in a coin-operated car wash. I brought a bucket & sponges & had them behind driver's seat. I opened driver's door, hit the rocker to unlock the back door & must've also hit re-lock, and locked myself out. It was very cold while waiting for wife to come with other key........[xx(]

Logically, it should not work. I tried it and it worked but I was close enough that it worked without the phone anyway (I was about 150 feet away). I moved far enough away that the doors would not lock or unlock with the key fob and tried the telephone trick again. No joy!! Didn't work.

It works! I just tried it. I had someone in their apartment blocks away from my PT do it. Not only is the apartment towards the upper floors and in the rear of the building but facing the opposite way too. I aimed the cell phone towards the driver side door and they were able to unlock, lock, trip the panic and shut off the panic. I was stunned!
