Default "I hear you knocking, but you can't come in"

Last night after driving for eight hours non-stop, I was almost home when I decided to go through a touchless car wash to clean the bugs off.

My money was in the back in my pack, so with the lights on and engine still running, I jumped out, hit the unlock switch, closed my drivers door, and went to open the tailgate....but it was still locked.

I went to open the drivers door to hit the switch again...but IT was locked!

ARRRRGH![xx(][xx(][xx(]

I was locked out of my sill running Cruiser, and my money and cell phone were inside! ....and so was my coat, and it was cold!

I must have hit "Lock" instead of "UN-Lock".[xx(]

I left my car there and walked to a gas station, and called home. Fortunately we have another set of keys, but a neighbor had to bring them to me because that's our only car.

Anyway...I think I'm going to hide a key on the outside of the car somewhere.

My wifes alarm re-locks the doors after a few minutes idling. That was fun when we discovered that little feature.

Just hide a fob without the key if you're going to go that route.

I just checked my '01.

While its running and the door is OPEN, I cannot lock the doors using the central lock.

Once the door is closed, I can central lock all.

I CAN lock all the doors using the FOB while the motor is running and the door(s) open.

Odd.[:I]

That's what I thought too, [:I]but it sure was locked all right.[xx(]

That's a good test when you're at home with a spare key, not on a long road trip!

LOL reminds me of 28 years ago, I did the same thing in a blizzard. It was a 77 Monte Carlo so once I got ahold of a coat hanger I was in pretty quick. I can still remember the initial panic tho.

Go to a hardware store and have a key made and than hide it
on your car somewhere. It will unlock your car door ,but won't start it.
That's what I did.

Good idea...but just don't hide it under the hood, because that locks too.

Where is a good place?

...And maybe a working key inside somewhere, just in case.

How about keeping one in your wallet. That's what I do, It's always with me.

I had a Dodge Ram pickup and it was all too easy to brush the door pin lock with your hand while slamming the door shut and also, the alarm had a 1 minute delay, self locking deal. [xx(]
I hid a key with a break away tie under the bed, out of sight. [?]

Did I ever tell you about the time I was on an out of state trip and needed to get something out of the trunk. Well I needed both hands so of course I laid the keys down in the trunk..............You get the picture, right? I was able to remove the rear seat back and retrieve the keys with a coat hanger. Lucky they were laying on top in plain sight. []

Maybe behind the licenses plate? Just make sure the screw is loose enough to unscrew it by hand.
