Default Plug Wires

Hey guys,

What size plug wires should i go with from Magnacore?

8.5 or 10mm?

Also, what is the advantage of Platnium vs. iridium plus?

Thanks!!

I think 8.5 would be fine; 10mm might just be overkill, but they are nice! Techinally, the iridium plugs are better and produce a bigger spark, but the double platniums are nice too! But it has been adviced not to use the double platnium plugs turbos.

Agree w/SuGamer. Just getting better wires puts you better off tahn stock, which don't last.
If you consider irridium, I'd stay away from the ones that don't have same reach as stock and require a ground-down socket to install - my $.02.
Don't understand why, but platinum isn't recommended for turbos. I put Champion double platinum in mine and just replaced them after 50,000 miles of use - the old ones looked perfect when I took tehm out.

Don, I read that the double platinum cause the engine to ping and knock more than normal. Don't know why. [:I]

Sue,

I'd like to see the data to back that up.
I spent over a year getting the Champion 7440 / 7570 double platinum spark plugs manufactured for the PT.
I worked relentlessly with Federal Mogul (Champion).
Several thousand double platinum plugs have been installed in PTs all over the world.
There are no drawbacks to double platinum plugs in the non-turbo PT.
Remember, I worked with Champion on this project in 2000/2001, long before the turbo PT was even a rumor.

Sorry MX-5, it is just something I read somewhere ... can't tell you where since I don't remember. Yes I had the double platinum plugs in my 2001 and loved them. I always wondered why DP plugs were not recommended for turbo. I think I read that here somewhere and at the srt forums, but I can't be certain ....

Sorry I should have added that DP would cause the turbo engine to ping and knock more than normal.

That is correct.
The cylinder pressures and additional heat generated by forced induction can blow out the spark, causing misfires.
Copper plugs are the best for heat dissipation.

For high boost, use copper plugs and a tighter plug gap.

MX-5, what do you think about the NGK iridium spark plugs? Others have said good things about them, but what's you opinion?
