Sounds to me like you hit that offramp at too high a speed at slippery road conditions. It probably could have happened to any car at that speed and as weighty as the PT. If the offramp was banked, you may have stuck it at that speed, but if it was a flat turn, watch out! Next time, watch your speed and road conditions and chalk it all up to experience.

i forget where i heard or read this but experience is the hardest way to learn because the test comes first and the lesson comes later.
now you are more prepared for the next time.

I agree with MichaelDay, downshifting in the turn would be bad. Its just like hitting the brakes. What you want to let the laws of physics take over..for just a SECOND, just long enough to get grip again. Definately steer the direction the rear-end is going, that will help you get grip faster. Recovering from a skid is an art, it can be very difficult to do. The best way to learn is actually on a skid pad with a teacher and an old car during a driving course. Its sad to say that few people get that training. There would be far less accidents on the road if driver training were more in depth!

1) Front Wheel Drive skid dynamics are different from RWD or AWD.

-Sometimes the way to get the rear wheels to follow is a bit of GAS so the front end pulls you the way you want to go, and weight transfer to the rear improves rear grip.

2) Steer in the direction you want to go. (IE, Rear swinging wide, steer gently to point the nose in the direction you want to go)

3==== The second best way to learn skid recovery ====

Find a nice empty parking lot after a snowstorm, and Practice... call it the poor-man's skidpad.
