Default AAA says PT gets 17.5 mpg

http://www.aaanewsroom.net/files/revisedmpgchart05(3).doc

That's what I get... (2003 GT 5 speed manual).

Looks like a Jeep Wrangler gets 18 mpg.

Too bad they don't list the specific models here.

The April 2005 issue of Consumer Reports (Annual Auto Issue) recommends the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Reliability is rated as Above-average and Satisfaction and Depreciation are rated as Average.

"...fuel economy is mediocre...18MPG"..."the brakes work well"...and the "fit and finish is good"...

I need a shirt that says..

"Why, yes! My fuel economy does suck."

A little old lady asked me about the gas mileage in my GT. She pulled in behind me in her N/A PT. She wasn't too pleased with her mileage, but loves the car otherwise.

I can honestly say I average about 21MPG. I have a GT with Stage 1 and a K&N intake. I have not seen an improvement in mileage since Stage 1 was installed like others seem to.

I actually improved my mileage greatly by inflating the tires to the proper pressure (as seen on the sticker in the drivers side door or doorjamb). I don't think they were more than five pounds low, but when I corrected that my mileage improved. YMMV

Like many cars today, the PT GT takes a real hit in stop and go traffic. Non rush hour freeway traffic or highway mileage isn't bad. I envy those who consistently get over 17 mpg in solid stop and go traffic with the automatic.

My overall average for the past 30,000 miles is 17.1 mpg.

Couldn't get to that link. AAA Has a good rep. but that does sound a little low. I get about 19 avg. but I do mostly stop and go and short trips with the A/C on. So for those who do freeway driving plus city I would think the avg's would be higher. 23 or 25. I don't like the low miles either espicially with gas here at $2.68.9 per gallon. But when I add up all the things I like about this car as opposed to other cars I've had some with better mpg. I still like this one the best.

I average between 20-22 MPG, mixed city and highway driving, in my 03' N/A 5 spd. If only freeway driving, I've gotten up to 35 MPG, running between 75-90 MPH. If I get caught in traffic though, I can almost watch the needle go down.

At nearly 85,000 miles, mine's more broken in than most and mileage creeps up slowly. I am getting very close to 25MPG on a round trip commute of just over 100 miles a day, on what the AAA would call "secondary roads".
I agree with Dragula - tire pressure is very important, and I always keep mine at 36PSI. You can feel 5 psi low when you're coasting.
