I had the same problem last winter and all it was, was water in the gas. I put in a bottle of dry gas and the problem was solved. I now put in a bottle about every third tank full. Also in the cold climate it is good never to let the gas tank go below a quarter of a tank. I hope this helps.

It seems to me that if it were the sparkplugs and/or the wires, the problems would be more constant. All the wires or plugs would have to fail at the same time to cause the engine to go dead. A momentary short somewhere in the ignition would be more likely.

You would think it'd be constant, but mine wasn't. At times, things'd be fine. At idle, or in a turn when you lift of gas, a misfire or two right in a row is enough to cause a stall.

I recall reading posts on the forums of bad ignition switches especially from persons who had put too many heavy keys and things on their keyrings. The weight did the damage over time. The reports were more about not being able to turn the key though. [:I]
I would like to add something to what 2step said. This is very true and I have been guilty of this in the past. A veteran car dealer pointed out to me that using a key attached to anything with any weight (like a big, fat key ring loaded with keys like I had) would definitely damage the ignition switch and could cause all sorts of related problems - most of them electrical.

Needless to say, I stopped doing that and now detach my Cruiser keys from the ring when I drive. It was a bad habit from the past - something I had to change.

After another few weeks of car not starting its now been into the dealers twice. It had a service two weeks ago but they only did the 2 year service although its done 33 000 miles. I phoned them and pointed out that the plugs etc would probably need done. So back she went again. Last week she wouldn't start. What happens is I have to keep turning key and she ticks over but just doesn't start. Eventually after 8 - 9 turns she starts. The dealers is closed until 30th March for easter so I can't do much until then. I'm going to insist that they take her in and go over her with a fine tooth comb! The car hasn't cut out recently but the not-starting problem is becoming more regular.

Thanks for your interest and advice

By ticks over, do you mean the starter cranks or is it the starter doesn't even turn when you turn the key?

If they change the plugs, have the leads (wires) replaced also. If that cures it, you should give dealer a good thrashing for making you put up with it for so long.[xx(]
