Default trouble getting my bumpers painted

At first when I asked to get my bumpers painted, I was quoted to $200 per bumper. I agreed. Now when it comes time to it, Ive gotten a suggestion to do a semi-gloss black, due to knicks and such being easier to repair. I said I would take my chances with body colored bumpers. Today, I was told that if the bumpers are painted, "the shine won't match up right and it would look bad." Now tell me that sounds a little weird. Ive seen a lot of PTs with painted bumpers that didn't come stock and they look fine. Whats the deal? Is my guy lazy? Because, I am starting to think so. He needs an answer by later tonight early tommorow, what should I say?

I forgot to mention that it was because of the dimpled texture on the bumpers that would not let the paint match up. I figured some sanding would take care of that am I right? Also, when I say Semi-Gloss black, I mean the same color that the mirrors are. I thought that the bumpers and the mirrors were the same but I guess not.

When mine were painted, the bumpers were not sanded. True they do look better if they are sanded; have a nicer shine to them but unsanded looks pretty good too. The red I have is hard to match and you could only tell the bumpers were a slight shade off if the sun hit it just right. Since I got hit last September, the front was repainted and the back bumper replaced and the colors match just fine. The body shop that painted mine the first time was a GM shop. Maybe one in your area will paint yours for you.

My back bumper was bead blasted smooth, the front hand sanded. The silver matched perfectly with the body.

It's your money, so it's your choice. If I went to a paint shop for a partial job and the guy told me he couldn't match it, I'd go to a place that could, even if it cost more. Check some refs, too.

I have until tommorow morning. I think Iam going to have the bumpers painted and go unsanded. I will take redhotpt's word for it, I think it can only improve the look from the unpainted bumpers. If I get talked into semi gloss black, It will still look better than it did with the duct tape marks. I am also having the billet grille put on while he was at it, so I figured with the painted bumpers it would look really hot. This guy has done work for us in the past, he has a good reputation with my family, and everyone else who deals with him. The prices are great too, since he operates privately and has no shop labor charges. I will let you know how it goes.

tape marks on the bumper are a warranty thing, and if you take it to the dealer, they will replace your bumper with a painted one no charge

Wish I could take it, but I've been out of warranty since I bought the car. Too old too many miles. Thats what Ive been told at least. Thanks though I might just try the dealer anyway.

I talked to a guy in Texas. He said to sand than apply an
adhesion promoter to make the paint stick.I believe he called it
yellow primer ,than paint and clear coat.
A friend of mine painted his himself ,he used those
4oz cans of body color paint from the dealer.I must say
it turned out pretty good.

What "taylormade" said mine is going in the dealership for painting 3/28, they'll have it most of the week, tape marks, chrysler said ok after taking pictures of the marks, under warranty.
