Default PT Cruiser on Good Bets List

Consumer Reports lists the PT Cruiser among its Good Bets for a Used Car. This list includes cars that performed well in Consumer Reports road tests AND have several years of better than average overall reliability.[^][?]

Hope that helps me selling my '02. My '05 is at dealer - I'm sure I can beat what dealer offered....[?]

VellianPT,

Send me an email to my work address: mrosinger@cciws.com and I will email you the page from Consumer Reports online. Anything like that will only help when it is time to sell your Cruiser.

Given the depreciation of the PT Cruiser, no wonder that Consumer Reports lists it so well. I've never had a car depreciate so much so fast. My 2003 GT has dropped to less than half of its original value in 2 1/4 years!

It doesn't help that Chrysler both lowers the base prices AND the local dealers offer whopping incentives to move older stock.

I'm glad I like my PT, becuase I'll probably be driving it for a long, long time.

....Then you've never owned a Dodge Neon did you? Our 97 was my wife's work car, very reliable, good value for the cost, but resale value? Forget it! I hope the new versions fare better.....

Well, the PT cruiser IS the same platform as the Neon. SO technically yes.

Espresso, I think what ZZZHuh is trying to say here is that the PT Cruiser is NOT the same platform as the Neon. The prototype that was shown at car shows before the release was, but when it went in to production Chrysler found that they had to start ne from the ground up for the PT Cruiser.

You may want to read "The Neon Controversy" article here:

Here is a discussion thread on another forum on the subject:

Interesting. I thought the front subframe was the same. That is what I was refering to. Obviously they wont share identical struts, sways or what have you..Interchangable YES, but not the same.
As for some of the stuff in those articles. Where they say the Neon doesnt come with the 2.4L. They how do they explain the SRT4?
Just like the Jaguar S-type is built off the Ford Contour subframe. Are they the same..Not by any means. But they share the same platform

Ah. I just did some research & found this
http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/...se/index1.html

I also found alot of other conflicting info. About the Lancer & Neon sharing the same platform. But then I also found that the Neon will be discontinued next year.

I dunno. I guess the PT is all it's own. I can say that it feels NOTHING like th eNeon. I just thought it shared the same platform. That doesnt mean the same parts. I didnt want to confuse anyone.
I guess the reason the resale is low is because people think that all it is, is a reskinned neon. If they look close you can obviously tell it is not.
