I have ordered the rear axle with disc brakes from a 2002 PT and will be getting it installed. Has anyone upgraded their rear drums to disc? if so do I have to change oue the emergency brake cable linkage? Please help if you can
Thanks |

Normally the whole braking system is different for a disc/drum compared to a disc/disc. The master cylinder may have different valving or the system may have a proportioning valve to direct the correct fluid pressure between front and rear. You can't just slap on a set of rear discs and have the system balanced properly.

blue, have you done a search.I seem to remember this
being talked about before.Anyway I have disc on one and disc/drum on the other.Just looks alone the disc are better ,I hate the look of that little drum back there. I put on some fake ones that look OK,but the real thing would be better.

My PT is going in the shop on this Thursday to have the brake upgrade done along with taking care of paint chips, and ding in my hood, painting a set of taillights and paint a set of door surrounds. I was told that I should get the PT back by the following Wednesday or Thursday. The brake upgrade jog is to be 4 to 5 hours. Will let everyone know how it all turned out

200th post, so new pic. Please keep us informed on the swap. I'm interested in doing this same mod, since I got a base. Keep track of bolts, hoses, hyd. system changes and any other items needed to change over. Good Luck!

Wow! Really didn't notice the "grey one" until you mention it. Very nice collection and I might add, for some odd reason the Cruiser fits right in![?] I also will add, apparently your not just a backyard mechanic!
