Before I go to a dealer with my problem has anyone seen a problem where the gas guage never indicates the tank is full?

I haven't experienced it on my PT, but have on my Dodge Ram. Probably just the fuel sending unit. Not a big deal.

Haven't heard of this on PTs, but could be gauge, sending unit or the circuit. I believe there is a procedure that causes all the gauges to go into test mode and 'sweep' the full range. I'm at home, but can check on this in the morning at work. Will let you know.

Mine did it once. Over filled the tank to the point of gas running down the side of the car. A mile down the road, the needle was on empty. Don't know how long it was on "E" but a few minutes later I hit a bump in the road and the needle moved up to the full mark. Never done it since.

Sorry I took so long to get back; it's been a Monday, if you know what I mean. To do an instrument cluster test, turn the key off. Press and hold the trip reset button while turning the key on. Release the button. The gauges will move in small sweeps and all lights (except the liftgate and foglight) will come on. Turning the key off will stop the test. You can check gas gauge operation and prove it's okay.

So.................
Has anyone found a reason for the occurrence? Hard to think it has anything to do with a fuse... Has the whole calibration gone whacky? Have the limits on a? switch” changed? Does a fuel cleaner clean a float? (if there is such) I’ll have to note how much fuel is actually going in (never really paid too much attention to it).. But I do top it off as much as I can after pump shutoff and I’d swear that fuel just about bubbles out the spout when I keep feeding it. So I’d have to think it is quite full and that the gage is just off.... Has anyone found if the Low Point / beeper / indicator is also off-set? I’ve never run it too long below that long enough And yes, it used to read full ( a year ago) thanks joe 2001 ~ 50K miles |

mine used to do that, changed a fuse and it was fine again, but usually i run my tank down to almost below E and i fill it between 12.8-13.2 gallons of gas when i fill up. but takes me about 2 weeks to do it cuz i get 30 city and 36 highway since i updated the computer and gear ratios.

Not good for it. The pump needs fuel to keep it cool or it heats up and burns out.
