Bad CV Joint or Boot?

Very crazy. It seems like every time I get something fixed on this car, something else comes along and take any money I have saved up.
Guys I need advice. My car is making a clunking sound when I leave from a complete stop or turn sharp. I have been reading in here and it sounds like the CV boots need to be replaced. My question is this....Jut how much does something like this cost to do? How much Should I expect to pay the dealer?

I just replaced a ball joint on the left front that was clunking and squeaking like crazy. $255 later, no problem.

Don't think it's the boots. If the boots are shot, then CV joint is making the noise, not the boots. Could be motor mounts or suspension bushings,... [:I]

CV/boot would be more of a repetitive click when turning and would be relative to vehicle speed.
clunks are usually ball joints or tie rods but some have clunking from the control arm bushings.

Well, if you all remember I have had a complete Rack and Pinion replacement last year, as well as Polyurethane Bushings. So if it just clunks here and there when I turn or go over a bump, its the CV joint? I notice sometimes when I go over a bump from the left side i hear a clunk. And when I steer from a stop, i hear this clunk. I guess the best way to find out is to take it for a ride to the dealer.

oh i forgot you had all that work done.
if you change your own oil just grab the axle and pull on it in different directions to see if there is any play.
the upper strut bearings can go out too, they aren't the best.
