Just to put the word out. I'm having trouble with a slipping trans already. It isnt horrible, but it's getting there. I took it to a good dealer & they said that it isnt bad enough yet to look at( they did a test drive). I just wanted to make them aware of the problem anyway. I currently have 1700 miles on it & drive almost all city driving. It's mostly noticable in the 1-2 shift, but is noticable in others aswell.
Thinking of changing the tranny fluid in it, to something synthetic, before it starts to kill the tranny. Granted I dont care if it does. But, I prefer not to have my car in the shop no more than what it needs to be. I know they are notorius for goign bad. But not this soon. I do drive the car somewhat hard, but I havent even put it in L1 yet. I donot have the autostick in my car. |

Sounds more like a TCM control issue to me.
The tranny shifts are calculated by a clutch volume index, CVI. The TCM adjusts the volume of fluid to match the fluid temperature and clutch pack wear. With this kind of control system, you will never get true clutch slippage until they clutch packs are completely wasted. What you may be feeling is the TRD, torque reduction program. This is built into the TCM and kills the fuel injectors and retards the timing during the shifts. It's designed to make a smooth shift and is not defeatable on PCMs made after 2002 on the PT. |

Wouldnt this have been since new though? It just started roughly a 1 to 1 1/2 weeks ago. When we first got it. The shifts were right on with no hesitation. There is a considerable difference.
I know there is a recall for Emissions, but dont think that has anything to do with it. They say the PCM either needs replacement or reflashing(pending condition?). I think there is a TSB on the TCM also. NHTSA is down so I cant find out. Thank you for the info. It does make sense that if the TCM is bad it would do this. I'll take it to the local shop & see what they say. Once, again thank you. |

It's either RIGHT or NOT RIGHT. [xx(] Instead of a "good" dealer, maybe you should try a better dealer. Good luck [^]

I have a 2003 GT turbo. Last week on the way to work while on the freeway I gave it a little gas. I noticed the RPM's going up, but not the accelleration as before. I tried it twice more, same thing, on the third time the engine light came on. When I got off the freeway the trans locked in 2nd gear and the engine would stall if I droped below 10 MPH.I disconnected the battery for a few seconds, but the engine light was still on, and drove back home, at least it shifted to 4th gear.I checked the code which was PO700, then I disconnected the battery for 20 seconds, so I could drive to the dealer with out it stalling every time I slowed down.I told them the code(PO700) and that it was slipping in 4th during accelleration. they had some gofer drive it, and said it was OK.They said they couldn't do anything with out reading the code even though I told them the code, and that the trany was slipping. When I first got the PT I found that even though the fluid level was in normal range the tranny would slip unless filled to the max level.

We compared it to 3 other cars on the lot. Sorry I left that out. The other cars were on par with what mine was doing. So they couldnt really say it was bad. When the others( with 100 miles on each respectivly) were doing it also.
I talked to them today & they said to bring it in for a fluid change & a through check. They said soemthing about hooking it up to a hand held & reading the TCM( I didnt know this was possible). I'll keep you all updated as to what they say. littleblue. I was going to do that & see what happens, but I dont have a CEL. I wasnt sure if the TCM "learned the way you drive" as some do. Also, I should mention. My wife doves most of the driving to work & back. She puts about 100 miles a week on it( minus trips to Miami & Orlando). Then I drive mostly on the weekends. I also drive more aggressive than her. I'm going to disconnect the battery tonight & see what it does. |
