Default This is drivng me NUTZ!!!

A few months ago I started to notice a rattle in the back area. So I removed everyhing from the back of the car and it still is there. I hear it only when I go over a bump. I checked under car, removed the rear seats, check the panels, everything looks fine. I even went over a small bump with the hatch open, thinking it might be there. Still made the noise. These little things bother the hack out of me, Maybe because I'm an obcessed detailer. anyone have this happen before? [xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]

Yes. At one point my Bassani exhaust was hitting rear axle. Other possibilities - check all bushings, and the shock attachments.

Could it possibly be in the area where you had the battery installed? That was a few months ago.

Check for loose bulbs in the center brake light. Also, check the fuel fill tube going from the quarter panel to the tank. Ours was rattling, just tie wrapped to the hold down bracket next to it.

make sure your spare tire is tightened up; look in the little compartment in the back and make sure there isnt anything there; look on the other side where the jack and wrench are, same thing , make sure there isnt any thing there.

just some ideas

I think my thud comes from the cover over the 3rd brake light area.

Check the spare tire... It probably sounds like its coming from the back of the car and especially when you go over a speed bump slowly. Almost like the car rocked sideways.

Everybody's givin you great ideas where to look, most from personal experience. My bump was the exhaust pipe (like QSD) where it was hitting as it went over the rear axle. Check for signs of rubbing on the axle and pipe right where they meet up.

I had what both qsd & crewzin had but it was not a rattle. It was more of a bang. Sounded terrible, exhaust guy rerouted it and all was fine. Not a rattle sound though.

Any luck finding the source of the sound? First time, it was the spare and it happened at odd driving intervals. Second time was the weights on the inside of my wheels; after a rotation and balancing, they were knocking the brake line. Found that one before driving away from the shop.
