Default Head Light Cover

Hey got a question? My head lights, the clear plastic cover is hazey. I must have in a over zelous cleaning fit used to strong of a chem. I've tried everything under the sun to try to polish them out but it's not working. Is their a link of a after market where you can just buy the covers, or is it the whole enchilida. If it's the whole light which I suspect are their any places besides dealership one can go. Any ideas would be appericated.[:I]

Unfortunately, if appears that the headlight is sold as a single assembly. You might see if a wrecking yard has a PT with the appropriate headlight assembly in good condition.

Thanks Goldenturtle, I bought a set off EBay much cheaper than the dealer. A bit of an expensive mistake I made, but look foward to new lights. With foggy lamps makes car look older.

Before you toss out your old covers, you could try the following polishing method. One of my hobbies is restoring old mechanical watches. Scratched plastic watch crystals can be polished to look like new with a small amount of Brasso brass polish. Even a deep gouge can be made to almost disappear by lightly sanding with 2000 grit paper, followed by the Brasso treatment. I have not tried this method on the plastic lamp covers, so let us know if you do, and the results.

On another car, but similar covers, I had some luck using a clay bar - lots of rubbing at a fast pace but not too much pressure, and made a big improvement.[?]

Google "headlight restore". With the plastic headlight covers being common to most cars these days, an entire industry has sprung up around products that will polish and restore them. Do your research and choose wisely though. Some will not last long.

Thanks Guys. Belive me I've tried most all those products and methods you mention except the Brasso. Didn't want to spend the money, but, whatever got on the covers put a mean haze like a chem burn melted in their. So I got the new lights not to bad price, ebay. I havn't installed em yet. Looks like a real challange, so far I figured I have to remove the front tires set it on Jacks. Theirs a axcess pannel behind each wheel. Also, the front grill, the air box and maybe I'm not sure the bumper. Looks like everything was built on top of the lights, probably cause their built to last, oh well. Has anyone done this, am I missing any steps? Is thier a site that has instructions on this? I'm feeling kinda unsure about this one, My Clinton book is kind of weak on explaintion. I hate just tearing into things without knowing all the steps. I wonder what the time frame is on something like this. All help is appericated![8D]
