Default Nervous....

Hello, I have a 2003 GT w/ approximately 64,000 miles on it, is it too late to try and do performance mods to it?! Because my mother is somewhat "giving" it to me, and now that i have a car and some money I was planning to do some performance mods, nothing really major...just S1, adams VAK kit the new intake from tommy and dual exhaust. Also when is the best time to upgrade my exhaust, so it wont be constricting air flow from the added modifications? Thank You![^]

It's NEVER too late to start in on the mods! Once they start they never stop The exhaust would be best served in conjunction with the S1, so do those around the same time. Lol, come to think of it, same with the VAK. With S1 you're upping the boost, and you're gonna wanna get that thing breathing better and not losing boost from the stock ucp so the vak comes in here. But then on the other hand you're gonna wanna get that exhaust to get the heat and whatnot outa there a little better. Go with the S1 first, it's the starting point. Then from there on out just go with what you can afford at the time...either the vak or the exhaust will greatly help out

Congrats on the car. I don't think 64k is too late for mods. Just keep up the maintenance on the car. Be sure to use synthetic oil.

And wires... At 64K, wires probably have been replaced, but if by stock wires, they're probably due again - get Crane wires RaceAndStreet.Com, and you won't need wires again.

It's never too late! If you are worried about modding a tired engine, as long as your mom has maintained the car, 64,000 is just broken in, not broken down. Do give it synth oil ASAP though.

The best time to upgrade exhaust is when it is cold so you don't burn your hands! J/K. Seriously, as with any other mod the best time is "the sooner the better". Improving the breathing is always a good idea. Don't look for huge gains just from putting an exhaust on, but it will work as a system with the intake, Stage 1 and other mods.

As long as the engine is in great shape it is not too late to mod. My motto is never too early never too late to mod!! If it is not burning oil or smoking or running rough it is in great shape for engine and exhaust mods. May I suggest you do a 2.5 or 3" system from 02 sensor to tail pipe with high flow cats right after stage 1. Then intake should yield some results. And yes dont forget the plugs and plug wires. I use NGK Iridium and MOPAR high performance wires and love the combo, but the main thing is get rid of those old brittle plug wires and never go more than 30,000 miles on stock plug wires or plugs for that matter! Good luck and happy cruising! [8)]

You now have the car, and you have some money.

There is no better timing than that - go for it.

I whole heartedly agree with the need for upgraded ignition wires and spark plugs so definitely get those along with the rest of your mods. Do the exhaust first.

By the way, the mod list you have is exactly what I have on my car, and I've made a bunch of 14.5 second passes at the dragstrip.

A stock SRT-4 will still take you, even with those mods. We weigh more and make a much larger hole in the air - neither is conducive to quick 1/4 mile passes. You'll narrow the gap, but you'll still lose....unless the SRT4 driver misses a shift. Hey, a win is a win.

Still, expect to get spanked.
