Running regular gas in a Stage 1 PT, especially a power modded Stage 1 PT is dangerous! The PCM is programmed to use Premium period. It will not compensate for a lower grade of gas! You will end up having serious detonation, even if you can't really hear it, and will damage your engine in the long run.

Espresso, you said it will cost you $35 to fill your tank this month. I pay that amount about every half week to a week, and I still stand on the petal when I fill like it. Yeah it's costing me more, but that's what I brought the car for! [8)]

BTW Gary, it must be down right crazy in Chi town if you're paying $375 per gallon of gas! That would be $4500 for a 12 gallon fill up! [] [}] J/K'ing!

Not $35/month. I went from $21 a fill to $35 a fill in about a months time. The 4x 14=48 was it's an extra $48/month now. Because I fill up about 4 times a month. Then the $48 x 12( 12 being months)

Sorry, if there was any confusion.

I say 30 cents on top of already rising prices is crazy because I get paid ONCE a month fo rdisability. if the gas rises about a set point I cannot budget for it. if I run out of cash i'm screwed. Because it has to last the entire month.

Damn. I feel for you! I totally understand. After my accident, my insurance will go up, my new car's payments are $40 more per month (because it has more options), and now gas is on the rise again. I can understand about tighter budgets! [:0][B)]

Hey Espresso, do you check out DSMTuners.com? I am a former DSM owner who switched to the PT when my daughter was born, used to hang there a lot.

Anyhow, if Stage 1 won't let you run anything but premium, maybe, for now, it's a good time to switch back your old PCM

I drive 106 miles round trip every day to work and back. I'm getting about 22 to 23 mpg and it is highway most of the way. I have to agree the increase has put a strain on the 'ol budget, but not running premium may cause even a bigger strain if your engine heads south. I have an 03 and in less than 2000 miles my bumper to bumper is saying so long.

Here in Texas, gas prices are dropping-- yesterday 93 octane was $3.07.9, this morning the wife filled the GT with 93 at $2.92.9. So maybe the crunch is over.

I just pumped $40 into the car yesterday! [B)]The premium at my regular BP jumped up to $3.49. It was $3.29 the night before. [:0]I should have filled up the night before, but didn't want to leave my house when I got home from work. [V]

Here is something to think about. Say you stop to fill your car up when it is about empty. It may cost you $3 a gallon to fill up. Then you decide you are thirsty and want to go in and buy a bottle of pepsi. A 20 oz. bottle of pepsi. Check where you live on price but where I live it is about $1.25 for that bottle. Now figure up what that would be for a gallon of pepsi. I find a gallon of gas to be alot more useful than a gallon of pepsi. The problem that I have with the gas prices is that it is so obvious that they are sticking it to us but we can't do a thing about it. Especially when our president is getting richer off of it.

With my Stage 1 Cruiser, I find myself in the middle of nowhere sometimes where the highest octane is 89. I have had to put it in. I try to add a octane booster, but I know it's not the same as 91.

Knock on wood, I've had no problems and just hit 48k.

Anyone else have that situation?
