Default i think my rotors are warped - are yours?

i think my rotors are warped already at 15K miles. light braking yields a slight steering wheel wobble. anyone experience this?

should i go with the drilled/slotted aftermarket rotors, as seen on ebay and pt only sites?

Had that happen on my automatic '01 PT at 19k. My '03 GT 5 speed, at over 49k when I traded it in, had 50% of brakes left and no rotor problems. I've heard of rotors warping early on non turbo PT's but no problems of early warpage on GT's.

04 PT GT and warped doesn't capture the vibration I get. But not with city driving. It's happening with gradual freeway braking (I know, I know, braking on the freeway ?!?! Hey, I live in Southern California. Braking on the freeway is all we do anymore.). If I'm over 40 MPG, and "feather" the brakes to a gradual stop, the car shakes like a crazy.

I've had the front rotors machined, but no difference. Think the rears are at fault? I'll likely wait for 25K, and replace the whole shameful mess.

BTW, the jiggles started at about 10K.

My $.02...
I know of no way to verify quality of eBay stuff.
On my '02, I went with the best rotors NAPA had (they sell "grades" of rotors).
The stock ones are too thin for machining, and the steel isn't that great.
I was happy with the NAPA disks. [?]

Mine never had any vibration not on the old or the new setup. After about 40,000 miles my old rotors were in good condition and only the pads really had to be replaced. Dont tell the wife I didnt realy need my 4 slotted and drilled rotors! I got from eBay!!After 7,000 miles no problems so far[^]

You might check your tires for this type of vibration if you've ruled out rotors. When I replaced my stock Goodyears at about 20K miles, some steering wheel vibration under braking was competely removed. I don't know if this was endemic to worn Goodyears, but I seem to recall some others here reporting the same thing with these tires when worn.

Check your lug nut torque. I've had this fix the shakes under braking.

Thanks, John, those Goodyears might be the problem. Will let you know when I replace. I just have loved other Goodyear tires I've owned (as opposed to Michelin and Bridgestone). It makes me frustrated that they may be the problem (of this and the overall harsh ride quality and the road noise!).

Purple04: I've only had the tires removed by "reputable" shops. But we all know that their air wrenchs are set to different torques. I turned them myself when I got home last itme, because I thought they were too loose. But same result.

How can I tell what the "tightness" should be without a torque wrench (which I do not own..........yet).

Thanks

The proper torque is 100 lbs. ft. That's a lot, so the best way without a torque wrench depends on your current tools. Make sure you get a torque wrench that can read that specification when you do buy.
