Default aftermarket mufflers. worth it? or noisemaker?

i've been seeing many different varieties of aftermarket mufflers all over ebay. i'm tempted, but is there a noticeable difference in horsepower with one of these deals? - or are they just noisemakers? also, what about (windows up) cabin noise?

With a turbo, you want as little back pressure as possible, so turbo can spool faster. I like my BTG - it is true flow-thru, but it is too noisy for some. I suggest you contact other PT'ers in your area and see/judge for yourself. Locate a club or a meet.

I asked a similar question and received a few good answers; suggest you look at the Engine Performance site for my questions on Flowmaster vs Magnaflow. I am going to order the Flowmaster next weekk.

You will get no noticeable hp gain from an aftermarket exhaust on a non turbo PT. You should be buying it for the sound or the look. As Don said on a turbo with a flow through exhaust your turbo will spool up faster.

The stock exhaust is quite large compared to other systems on other 4-cylinder cars. There's not much room for improvements.

"Noise" is another whole ball of wax. That can be hard to categorize and is hit or miss. For example, my BTG duals are not nearly "good" enough sounding to me. At least they look good.

I finally found an exhaust system that is a "perfect match" for my turbo car: http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...TOPIC_ID=13109

I agree with Gary, the Mopar duels are a sweet set up. I like both the sound and performance you get from them and they are designed to bolt right on. While your upgrading the exuast get a high flow catalitic converter and a 3 inch downpipe and you'll really start making some room for hp gain.

hi,

I have an 05 convertible the Magnaflow resonator and muffler installed. The performance results are not overwhelming but the motor does seem to spin up easier. I also installed a drop in K&N filter. If I keep my foot out of it I get better mileage than stock by an mpg or two. I had the resonator installed after a couple of weeks with just the exhaust pipe. Since I have a convertible I found the freeway drone a little annoying. With the the two magnaflow pipes installed I get a very throaty sound that is quiet at freeway speeds. My guy did not recomend the Flowmaster as he had done one before and it was to loud for normal driving.

I test drove the Chrysler duals (Borla)a few years ago and it was good. A little more power and not much more noixe for noise sake! I do like Magnaflows over Flowmasters. To be honest even in a turbo if you dont go to stage one the added performance with any muffler or mufflers is minimal!!
