Replace the sending unit! A faulty unit is one thing, but if you really have a problem you won't know about it until it's too late. I have found the dealers are not to bright, or some of the "mechanics" they hire.

some advice for anyone with a flickering oil light.. one check to make sure you have oil in the engine.. two is it making any funny noise... three take it to a shop (or do it yourself if you know what your doing) and out a master oil pressure gauge on the damn thing ans make sure it has good oil pressure.. then look at the sending unit does it have signs of oil leaking thru it?? if it does replace and problem solved if not check the wiring but most likly with a chrysler its the sending unit, some models have a wire vent update but not on everyone.

I worked at the dealer for about 2 years, and saw about 15 of these come in with this problem. 14 needed sending units replaced. 1 had about 1/2 a quart of oil in it
Replace the sending unit.

yeah if I remember correctly, that one had over 20000 miles on it and came in with that problem, we had sold the vehicle at that dealership, but had no service records on it, when I got underneath it, it still had the original oil filter on it!! The 2.4 is a good motor, but you hafta at least change the oil once in a while
![]() Oh and another thing that is a dead giveaway that its the sending unit is if you pull the connector off and see any oil seeping through it, its definitely bad. Also, they don't always have that happen. |

I had the sender changed and the problem went away for a few months. Now its back as bad as ever.

Have a similar issue but thought I'd throw my symptoms out there as they are slightly different. Mine seems to happen primarily after I've been driving for a while. I commute 45 miles each way to work. It takes me about 30 minutes to get to the off ramp and the oil pressure light will come on usually as I'm coming off the ramp. Once it starts, the oil pressure light will come on whenever the engine drops below 1500rpm (+/-) and go out again when I accelerate. The other thing that is fairly consistent is that if it's warm overnight it rarely happens. If it's cold overnight(below 40F) it's almost guaranteed. Was having an issue with one of the spark plug seals leaking oil into the No. 1 plug well. Replaced the valve cover gasket and plug seals this weekend. That issue is taken care of but still have the low oil pressure light coming on. Not sure how related it is but recently my gas mileage has gotten much worse. Not that it was great to begin with when compared to the average 4 cylinder but you folks already knew that.
It's an '04 TE with the 2.4L Turbo. Thoughts?
