Default 205 50 -> 215 50 tires on 17" chrome GT wheels

i do not wish to go to a lower profile tire, but was thinking about going a tad wider. anyone go from 205's to 215s?

if yes, any tire recommendations?

also, was thinking raised white letter tires might look cool[8], but i've never seen RWL on a 50 series tire.[:I]

Gary,

If I may ask....why such a harsh statement on the link you provided when you said "not lowered and never will be!" Do you have something against lowered cars? I will admint, it does make the car ride a little harder, but it sure takes that ugly hugh space out of the wheel openings that makes the PT look like a 4 wheel drive, not to mention it lowers the center of gravity for better handling, less moving around at highway speeds due to cross winds and better cornering.

Oh yea, I can clean and way the roof without a step ladder.

Not to hijack the thread, but I wondered the same thing.....especially since I have a new set of Eibachs patiently waiting until Spring for installation

I have absolutely nothing against lowered cars. [8D] However, I would not lower my PT-GT for two reasons: 1) [u]I like the stock rake</u> and, 2) in the area where I live gravel roads and potholes in paved roads are not that uncommon and I don't want to scrap/damage my Cruiser.

Have you guys with lowered PTs recently looked under the front end of your ride? Thanks but no thanks to lowering. [8]

I guess it's not too bad here in Florida. The roads see no salt or harsh changes in weather. I've only got one good scrape on the bottom of my bumper and that's was my fault after pulling into a McDonalds and they had one of those concrete blocks (about 4 feet wide) at the end of the parking spot and I ran right into it.[xx(] That black rubber "lip spoiler" on the bottom of the bumper takes all the punishment from the high/low curbs.

I went with 215 50s. Purchased a set of Fusion ZRi tires--an excellent tire (nearly unanimous praise in reviews at Tire Rack) and are quite reasonably priced ($91 per). I found that they are noticeably wider & a huge improvement over the stock Goodyears (in terms of grip). However, they do appear to me to be noticeably taller and make the car look less 'hunkered down.' Perhaps this will change as the tires wear. Nevertheless, I highly recommend them (though next time, I'm going with the 45 series).

For the stock GT rims being only 6" wide, the 215/50's are the best you can do. And if you do intend to lower your ride, the taller profile will keep the nose from diving into parking curbs. There are plenty of lowering kits that also keep the stock rake in the PT if you like it. The H&R springs I have only lower it by 1 1/2" all around and keep the stock rake (At least with the top up, top down it flatens out)

We also have 215/50s on the wife's GT. What a difference -- she loves 'em.
