2003, 250HP Dream Cruiser Turbo:
One of the 2 lights which illuminate the tach has gone kaput. Rather than have a warranty claim and the resultant monkeys removing the cluster, how can *I* accomlish this? Where specifically do I start? |
|

![]() It isn't easy so if it's covered by a warranty, I'd let the "monkeys" do it.

Check out http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...TOPIC_ID=13869 and you will find that tomctomc replaced his instrument bulbs recently. Sounds like it was a real pain!! Might want to get some additional input from him if you aren't planning on turning it over to the dealer.

This is not a job for the novice, it requires removing the fascia around the radio and the window switches and then removing upper A pillar covers and the upper dash cover.
I had the same light on the tach go out on my '01 a couple of months ago, so I replaced all six lights so I would not need to go in there again for a year or two. I had removed the dash before when I installed the chrome vents on mine as well as several other projects, so I already knew what was involved. Instead of using the OEM lights I picked up 6 each of the #74 type light bulbs (available at most auto parts stores) which snap directly into the holder in the back of instrument cluster. A package of two was $1.79. The #74 subminiature wedge is rated at 1.4 watts and average life is about 500 hours. If the picture below scares you, don't try it.

That doesn't look to bad. About the same as my Neon. I thought you had to remove the cover for the passenger side airbag? You know that cover over the glove box the has the PT logo on it? That has been the only thing keeping me from doing it myself.

I would never ever let a dealer do that on my PT. The dealer will never take the care and time to take all of the peices off without marring them in some way...It really is not that hard to remove...Just get a Trim Stick and start removing...
