My 03 does the same thing or should I say did the same thing. It went away pretty fast when I put in my Sun grounding system. Every once in a while it will stay on for say something like 4 seconds but not as often or as long as it used to do. The only two things the grounding system did NOT fix was my gas mileage (19 city 24 highway) and my odometer turns back to zero everytime I stop the car.

I've definitely noticed the same thing on my '03 GT with about 49k miles. For approx the last 6 months, after I start the car, the airbag light stays on for about 7 seconds and then goes off and usually a chime sounds as well. This happens most every time, if not every time. This is a new, different behaviour of the airbag lite (that is, it didn't do this until about 6 months ago) so something has changed to cause this.

I recently installed Stage 1 (which means I had a complete PCM changeout) and it did not affect the airbag light staying on, so it's definitely not PCM-related.

I checked the codes (by turning the ignition key On-Off-On-Off-On) and there are none. Cruise control and the horn work just fine.

Not sure what to do about it, and I guess I'm just hoping it's a instrumentation problem and not one with the airbag itself. But since I hate taking my car to a dealer, I'm just living with it.

Well, hmmmm, the plot thickens, because I just put a Sun grounding system on my '03 GT, and not only did it NOT take care of the exterior/interior lights flickering and dimming, but it didn't affect the airbag lite at all, either.

Hello,
I have an 07 PT Base, and this has happened to it once. When I started it, the light came on and it chimed. Then it stayed on. So I put the car in park, shut it down, then started it up again and then it went away. It was kind of weird.

On my 07 PT Base model, when someone "skinny" seats on the passenger side (doesnt happen with big people "full figures so to speak"), the airbag light comes on and the chime starts chirping, and is very annoying to drive a car with a chime chirping every 10 seconds, sometimes if you pull the seatbelt in that seat, the light comes off for about 5 minutes and after that, it comes on again and again.

What really bothers me is the alarm, so, is there a way to deactivate the chimes?

Not sure if its the same but on my 08 Mountaineer the airbaig light would stay on for a few seconds when I started it up if the battery charge is low. Hows you battery?

It has a brand new 950 CCA Interstate Battery, the weird thing is that when someone heavy seats in that particular seat (passenger side), the airbag works perfectly, but if someone skinny or short like a 13 yearold kid seats, the airbag light comes on and starts to chirp every 10 seconds. Kinda funny doesn´t it?
