Default radio reception is spotty, shotty, and weak.

hello - i am considering the addition of a 12 volt in-line antenna booster. anyone add one of these deals to their pt?

if yes, please let me know the best (most painless) location to install one, as i'd rather not pull the radio and faceplate. many thanks!

btw: do those custom pt billet antenna replacements - increase or decrease reception?

The custom billet antennas are usually shorter than the OEM antenna so they almost have to decrease reception. If your anywhere near a major city and most of your stations are in range, then you wouldn't notice any difference. I have the 16" billet and on my trips up north along US95 stations don't hang in very long before I have to look for another. Some spots I just give up and throw in a CD or cassette.

Yep, what he said. I got the shorty antena on my PT for looks. Nice low profile. Doesn't bother me because I never listen to the radio. Got my CD's and CD changer!

I've got a question for you guys with shorty antennas - I cannot keep my tightened! Every time I tighten it even the shortest trip makes it come loose again. It's getting very annoying. Do I put some of that blue lock tight stuff on it, or a lock washer?

i'd go with the red colored lock tight - it's not as "permanent", but will still solve your loosening problem.

You sure about the RED Loctite not being permanent? I used the RED stuff on my 8 ball auto shifter and now that thing won't move no matter what I try. Hopefully I'll never have to take it off.

Whatever color you use, just use it sparingly..a couple drops at most.

I believe that there are different levels of red. I have a red and its used on threads to hold but allow removal.

BDD. Mine says "Heavy Duty" and I guess they meant it.

I have found that poor reception in my Cruiser was due to a pood "ground." You may want to check that before you buy something else.
