Default Cap in drivers side fender wheel?

I have searched for this topic but haven't found a relevant resply.

My wife just purchased a 06 PT LE turbo. She absolutely loves the car. I would (like most guys) like to optimize the power. The first thing I look at is the intake efficiency and locate that the intake obtains it air charge. From what I have seen on this car the intake charge is taken from just above the driver's side fender, but still inside the engine compartment. I also notice when looking at the fender well from the tire position, that immediately below the intake snorkle there is a circular panelin the wheel well material that appears to be removeable. If one removs this panel the hole would provide a cool air source for the intake. Has anyone removed this panel? If so, how have you dealt with the possibility for water intrusion?

Additional question if you please, is there a detailed method for changing the spark plugs and wires? What the postings I have seen the process appears to require removal of the valve cover?

Thanks

Danny

First off read your owners manual...That is a splash shield to get to your headlight bulbs...Leave it out and you know that you get....Wet headlight and possibly a wiring short in heavy rain....

Yuo can run a 2" flexible hose inside the liner from the hole next to the fog light up to the fenderwell hole. Put a few weep holes at the hose's lowest point to drain any moisture that gets in the hose. I did this on my '03 GT and loved it. Never had a problem with rain and it rains a lot here in Oregon.

Did you feel an improvement in performance? Did you connect the 2" hose directly to the airbox snorkel or just point the end of the 2" hose at the snokel from a close (1" or so) distance?

Thanks

Hay Danny,

I see that you listed you, your Vette, your wife and then the PT in that order in your signature.

Well, yes, we had the vette first. Nice floor by the way. Is it paint or tile?

Tile....hundreds and hundreds of self-sticky ones.

You won't really feel a difference in performance. If there is any it is subtle. You are helping colder, denser air into the intake. Every little bit helps. [?] I ran the hose right up to the snorkle. Some people have run the hose right into the airbox.

I understand the benefits of cooler air into the intake. The area at the front of the 06 grill is setup with a duct that feeds air to the driver's side brake rotor area. If I put a hose into that duct I will significantly reduce the cooling flow to the rotor. Of course, the wife will not be racing the car so rotor heating will most likely not be an issue. Guess I have some thinking to do.
