Default Time for new tires - suggestions?

Well, the time has come for new tires. The side exit exhaust has a tendency to accelerate the wear of the the rear left tire

Although I actually like the look of the factory wheels compared to most aftermarket ones, I really need to put some much wider meats on this if possible (I am tired of just smoking the tires), so I figure it's as good a time as any for a wheel/tire upgrade.

How wide of a tire has anyone been able to get under the front fender w/o rubbing (My PT is not lowered)?

If your looking for grippy tires that are excellent in wet weather, at a good price, I would go with the Yokohama AVS ES100 tires, size 215/50ZR 17 91W. These tires are awesome and fit perfectly.

Had my pair for about a year now, still feel the same, stiff sidewall gives good cornering response, quieter than stock Goodyear tires, excellent traction in the rain. This size tire is sligtly wider than stock goodyears so check the sizing for your car since it is lowered. My PT isn't lowered, but I have spacers on mine and no problems with wheel rub. The tire looks cool with it's v shaped tread pattern and fills up the wheel well nicely. I like the way the side of the tire sticks out slightly to minimize wheel rub against a curb, the tire sticks out just far enough to bump into the curb before the wheels can get close enough to scrape. Good tire choice if your going to get new wheels too. Set of four cost me $600, well worth it.

And if you want more wet performance than dry ultra grip you can get what I found to be the best for me as far as wear and grip combo the Yoko Avid unidrectional all weather 215 X 17 tire. I Have had them for 10,000 miles now and they look brand new. I think I may get 60,000 miles wear along with great wet grip and better than the RSA's dry grip and they are very very quiet. I got mine at America's tires which was a little more money than Tire Rack but with a better road hazard warrantee along with lifetime flat repair and 5,000 mile tire rotations!

I was gonna tell ya about my tires that I bought for the GT wheels but I see you live in OHIO. No good, the KUMHO Ecsta Supra 712's are great in wet and dry area's but doesn't even have a rating for snow and ice.

On stock rims I know people tha are running 225x45x17's, I am running 215x50x17's on aftermarket rims.

I have to drive in snow & ice. I just got a set of Bridgestone Potenza G009's. & love them. The ride is great. Came close to going w/ the 225x45's but I didn't need the wife complaining about the ride. She loves the ride now.

Nice & grippy & much better than the stock tires. Also they look better too!!![8)]

Toyo Proxes 4 all weather tires. Excellent in the rain or dry weather. They grip very well in spirited driving.

I have had Hankook K107 215x50x17 on my GT for 30,000 miles, great tire and very cheap.

SteelBlue,

How do you like the tread pattern on your Yoko Avid's. I almost got a set of Avid's, because they are all season tires. In CA we don't see much snow, but I had to cancel a ski trip to Tahoe because of non stop snowfall. Recently it hailed which made the roads very hazerdous. It's times like this that I wish I had all season's.
